Macedon, Thessalonica. Philip I. A.D. 244-249. AE 25 (25.05 mm, 8.31 g, 2 h). IMP M IOVΛI-ΦIΛIΠΠOC, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / ΘΕCCΑΛΟΝΙΚЄΩΝ ΠVΘΙA, Apollo standing left, holding small figure of Cabeirus and resting elbow on serpent-entwined column, holding bow behind him; before him, a tripod altar on which rests agonistic urn containing a palm branch. Cf. SNG ANS 188; Cf. Touratsoglou p. 293, no. 48. choice VF / VF, very attractive contrast between dark green patina and lighter devices.
